We loved our two nights at the Novel House and our C. S. Lewis room with a lovely old wardrobe, the lion Aslan hanging over the top, and a witch in the corner of the room. Ruth had a wonderful sleigh bed - to represent the witch's sleigh in the book. The big bed was fit for a Narnian queen with regal hangings and tie backs. We recommend this B & B in Springdale, Utah, to one and all.
Judy, bless her, drove the canyon road, with all it's twisting and turning switchbacks, 1930s unlit, mile+ long tunnel, as I manned both our cameras all along the way. Lovely sunny weather after a hard rain late afternoon yesterday and a cloudy night. We finally saw one big horned sheep, walking along the road. It was a lovely drive, with beautiful scenery: the mountains, upthrusts of rocks, the wide plateaus. We drove through mixed deciduous and coniferous forests, enjoying the lovely white trunks of the quaking aspens. The cloud play was fascinating as the day couldn't decide what it was going to grow up to be. At a scenic view point for the Vermillion Cliffs, we each bought Navaho jewelry from the women who had made them. Just as we were ready to leave, the rain caught up with us.
As we reached 8,827 feet, the rain was mixed with snow. In the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, clouds were deep in the canyons below the rim line. We walked as fast as we could to get pictures before the clouds swept by us, enveloping everything, including Angel Point. However we got incredible pictures of the Canyon, and it was rather neat to see all the clouds and watch the building of the storm. Thunder rumbled all around us, and we saw lightning across the canyon. Fortunately we got inside to have lunch just before the clouds burst. When we sat down we could see our rim, but moments later we couldn't see beyond the windows! It was a memorable day.
291 miles, another 350 or so photos today, only a few of which you'll see below.
